Euro-American
European and American cabinet doors are marked by heavier mouldings and larger scale; they appear mostly in large homes and villas, in pursuit of ceremony and permanence.
OVERVIEW
About European and American custom
Moulding scale
Mouldings and architraves are heavier than in light French; they need ceilings above 3 m to carry them.
Material
Species with pronounced grain work best - red oak, cherry, black walnut - in a natural tone or an aged dark finish.
Where it works
Main halls and studies in villas, townhouses and clubs; for standard apartments we recommend Modern American instead.
KEY POINTS
- Roman column diameters in three sizes: 60/80/100 mm
- Gilding and glazing are done by hand and take longer
- Symmetry on a central axis, with a sense of ceremony
- Under 3 m ceiling height, simplify the mouldings
